The temple of Sri Lakshmi Narayana Temple at Hosaholalu is another master piece of Hoysala art. The temple is situated at a distance of 2 kms from the taluk head quarters of Krishna Raja Pete in Mandya District. It was constructed during the rule of the Hoysala King Vira Someshwara in the year 1250.
I had a good time photographing this temple. Also nature co-operated with me and provided a nice background of blue sky with interesting cloud patterns that enhanced the composition. I am presenting the pictures that I took when I went around the temple.
Like all Hoysala temples, this temple also faces the East and the eastern side is guarded by a perimeter wall.

The entire temple is built out of Soapstone and incorporates the typical Hoysala jagati which elevates the temple over the ground by a meter. The base, like all Hoysala temples has the six decorative layers that comprise of swans, elephants, horse riders, leafy scrolls, various gods and goddesses and scenes from Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharatha.
Though not as big as Belur or Halebeedu temple, the Laxminarayana temple in Hosaholalu is exquisite and worth driving 160 kms from Bangalore. It is an ideal one day trip destination for architecture lovers.
